Hadestown the Musical Opening Night Replica Wooden Printed Coins – Broadway & West End

It's either blazing hot or freezing cold - any way the wind blows…..

These are replicas based on the wooden token souvenirs given out for the opening night of Hadestown on Broadway (April 17, 2019, at the Walter Kerr Theatre). They have been reproduced in Greek and translated into English, in both Broadway (US) and West End (UK) versions – the UK version shows the official opening date of the 21^st February 2024 at the Lyric Theatre in London (previews were held before this date).

The original tokens featured quotes about classical mythology translated into Modern Greek.

Side 1:

In classical literature, this line is spoken by Rhea (messenger of Zeus) as a plea to Demeter to end the famine she brought upon humanity while grieving Persephone. It explains the way Spring and Fall (Autumn) have disappeared and the world is either boiling hot or freezing cold (as Eurydice sings in the musical at the start of the song “Any Way the Wind Blows”).

Side 2:

This quote is a famous description of Orpheus from classical literature - specifically referencing Ovid's Metamorphoses or Apollonius of Rhodes' Argonautica, describing how Orpheus’s music had limitless power over nature, beasts, and even the underworld. It explains how Orpheus’ song brought the world back into life and the seasons into tune.
